List of common warning signs that your equine may need the services of an equine dentist

  • Big smileLoss of condition
  • Difficulty with fitting bridle & bit
  • Large particles of feed in droppings
  • Head shaking when ridden
  • Rearing/bucking when ridden
  • Unable to chew efficiently
  • Rushing & quidding of hard feed & hay
  • Excessive drooling & salivation
  • Taking hold of the bit & lack of control
  • Pulling against the rider
  • Cheeks sensitive to touch
  • Bad breath from mouth or nostrils
  • Nice smile
  • Distinctly unpleasant smell
  • Sores on the lips, cheeks &/or inside the mouth
  • Dunking hay in the water
  • Irregular movement of lower jaw
  • Discharge from the eyes, nasal passage or jaw
  • Soft tissue injuries to the inside of the mouth
  • Dropping or dribbling food when eating
  • Poor attitude & head shy
  • High head carriage or down by the knees when ridden
  • Avoiding the bit, not coming on the bridle
  • Noticeable inflexibility between reins

Even if your equine is eating well this is not an indication that there are no problems with their teeth. An equine with poorly maintained teeth could be eating more feed daily than he actually requires.
